Opanka performs Eastern European folk dances to a high standard. The goal is to reach performance standard and to enjoy ourselves in the process. The dancing is demanding, energetic, and exhiliarating. Veronica Hartt learned the dances in the villages where they are performed, and is widely respected for her ability as a dancer, trainer, and choreographer. She maintains the original characteristics of the dances in training the group. She invites members to perform when she decides they are ready. We encourage newcomers to improve, and invite you to join us if you want to become competent dancers.

Beginners will be given their own slots in practise sessions. Opanka is non profit making. The present charges are £2-00 per week, plus a contribution of 50p towards costumes.

Opanka meet most Sundays at Union Chapel from 5pm to 8pm. Beginners have special tuition from 5pm to 6pm, advanced teaching and practise is from 6-8pm.
